Oil painting update

Spent some time at my father's place on Wednesday night. He helped me block this out a lot better. I'm excited to work on it more.

Self Portraits

Feeling slumpish with art the past few days - I'm trying to chalk it up to the low-grade cold I think I had. Now I'm trying to get back into the swing with some quick self portraits.

Fruit

Really rather uninspired fruit renditions today - sorry - I could have added shadows at the very least...

Last night's PoseManiacs session

Each pose is about 60 seconds, though I didn't time it - just tried to capture as quick as I could.

New Oil (work in progress)

Started this painting the other day - it's based on a couple of poses that came from playing with the Scribbler

Pose Maniacs 45/90

I spent a good chunk of time at PoseManiacs.com tonight. I warmed up for about 20 minutes doing 45 second poses. I then moved on to 90 second poses for about 15 minutes. Every time I go to posemaniacs I think about how I should really seek out a life drawing class...

The Scribbler

A while ago Ze Frank created this fun flash app called The Scribbler. At first it seemed like just a fun toy, but I'm now thinking that it can actually be a very useful artist's tool. It can be used to get an idea of where your strengths and weaknesses are in quick sketches. I also think that the sketches it produces could be useful foundations for paintings or other larger works. Here are some quick ones I made using Pose Maniacs images as models.

Here's my very poor attempt at translating a couple of these into watercolor. I think i'll try again this weekend with oils.

Lunchtime

I've taken to doing most of my drawing at lunch lately.

This was an attempt to capture the pear's odd skin.

I finally got around to picking up a pencil sharpener.

Oil update

Incorporating some (slightly) more natural colors - apologies for the abysmal photography job. These are still very much works in progress.

View from the Dev Lab

The Dev Lab is where I spend a lot of my time - Here's the view from where I sit.

Evening at Pop's

My brother Alex
A super-quick contour drawing of my father

Leaf cleanup

These sketches from my window are definitely a reaction to the shock of actually having a window after having spent the last 3 years or so in a windowless cell-type office. An office with a window is an incredible thing. I hope I never have to go back...

Water Bottle

Super-quick water bottle sketch in between sandwich bites at lunch today.

Treetop clouds

It was a beautiful, sunny morning, then these clouds came in for about 15 minutes.
